Stockholm Gardens was established in 1987 on an historic farmstead within the village of Stockholm, Wisconsin by Harley Cochran and Beth Shide-Cochran. Our mission was to develop a unique plant nursery which emphasized perennials, herbs and landscaping-we made a committment to grow crops using organic methods.
In addition, we carry a large selection of specialty annuals in season, plus shrubs and trees. A display garden along Highway 35, the Great River Road, shows many of the flowering perennials we grow. Our selection of hardy perennials is extensive for both shade and sun gardens. Some perennials, such as coneflower, heuchera, daylily, Japanese iris, and hosta include many varietal selections; a large peony collection contains unusual and rare types.
Plants: we primarily sell potted plants, except in early fall when we offer bare root peonies. This is a good time to plant peonies, and we will take orders and ship to customers. The other exception is in the spring, when we sell some bare root tree and shrub varieties.
We sell annual packs, specialty annuals, vegetable starts (several heirloom varieties), many herbs and perennials, unique trees and shrubs, Prices vary by pot size- perennials, for example, will be offered in 4" - 1 gallon sizes, depending upon the age and stature of the plant.
Landscaping: we offer a full range of landscape services, from design/consultation to installation; we offer landscapes appropriate to their setting, and specialize in work aimed to fit not only architecture of the home, but the larger landscape of river, bluffs, farmland, and prairie.
